Acronyms

I spend a lot of time on forums and get used to using a lot of acronyms.  I’ll try to keep this list updated as I use them…

  • 2dt or 3dt or 5dt = 2/3/5 day transfer (the number of days after ER when the ET occurs)
  • 2ww = 2 week wait (between ovulation and AF/+HPT/beta)
  • AF = Aunt Flo (menses)
  • BB = refers to an Australian forum website for TTC, pregnancy and beyond
  • beta = blood test to detect hCG
  • BFN = big fat negative (ie negative pregnancy test)
  • BFP = big fat positive (ie positive pregnancy test)
  • BIL = brother-in-law
  • b/t = blood test
  • b/w = blood work
  • DD = dear daughter
  • DH = dear husband
  • DPO = days past ovulation
  • DS = dear son
  • ER or EPU = egg retrieval or egg pickup
  • ET = embryo transfer
  • FF = refers to a website for women TTC, it has a charting function and forums
  • FIL = father-in-law
  • FMU = first morning urine
  • FS = fertility specialist
  • hCG = human chorionic gonadotropin, the hormone produced in early pregnancy, detectable in the urine and blood
  • HPT = home pregnancy test
  • ICSI = intracytoplasmic sperm injection
  • IF = infertility
  • IRL = in real life
  • IUI = intra-uterine insemination
  • IVF = in vitro fertilisation
  • m/c = miscarriage
  • MIL = mother-in-law
  • O = ovulate/ovulation
  • OHSS = ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome
  • OTC = over the counter
  • P4 = progesterone
  • PUPO = pregnant until proven otherwise
  • SIL = sister-in-law
  • SMU = second morning urine
  • TI = timed intercourse
  • TTC = trying to conceive
  • u/s = ultrasound
